Meatball Ingredients
- 500 grams of ground beef
- 3-4 rashers of bacon, cook and chopped
- Half a medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- Half a cup of parsley, chopped
- Half a cup of breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Half a teaspoon of pepper
- Half a teaspoon of chilli powder
Bourbon Barbecue Sauce Ingredients
- One third of a cup of ketchup
- One quarter of a cup of bourbon
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
- One quarter of a teaspoon of smoked paprika
- One third of a cup of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
Method
- In a large pan, cook the bacon over a medium heat until crispy. Chop the bacon finely and add to a large bowl with the minced beef.
- Add the onion, parsley, egg, breadcrumbs and seasonings to the meatball mixture and use your hands to combine well.
- Form into balls and set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, bourbon, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar and seasonings. Cook over a medium-high heat until boiling.
- Reduce to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes. Once finished, remove from the heat.
- In a skillet, heat two tablespoons of olive oil and cook the meatballs for five to 10 minutes, rotating them occasionally, or until brown and crispy.
- Remove from the heat and toss the meatballs in the sauce.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Line the baking tray with baking paper and spray with cooking spray.
- Mix all ingredients until well blended, shaping them into balls.
- Bake for about 16-18 minutes. Enjoy!
